Meeting Rob Liefeld back in 2017 at L.A. Comic Con.

Geeks and Nerds are Equals

Once upon a time, I would have never foreseen myself being a geek lord or a poindexter nerd. I’ve thought to myself on rare occasions that being a “geek” and a “nerd” is a curse or something demonic in the eyes of the cool cats. I’ll admit that I can overthink stuff in the stupidest ways. However, I am human, a mortal, and a fellow geek. I decided not to be called a nerd so that no bully takes my lunch money. I wonder if that is still a thing in 2023? I am assuming that comes from the movies or something.

I can joke more later throughout this article piece, but I must ask a simple question for the readers today. Why do I enjoy my life being a geek? Simple. You can have hobbies that pertain to comic books, video games, anime, movies, music, books, art, pop culture, computers, photography, etc. Being a geek is an honorary privilege. You have the freedom to explore the vast spectrum of mediums that could provide positivity in your life.

There is no shame in sounding like a complete “dork” when you geek out to your family or friends unless you want Kevin (“Ed, Edd n Eddy” cartoon reference) to roll up on his bike to trash talk you while providing the knuckle sandwich of today’s menu. Okay, who says knuckle sandwiches these days? Is that what typical bullies would say in the 90s or something? I have no idea mate.

You can tell this photo was taken on the same day from the above image hahaha.

To be frank, there was a point in history when I felt like Peter Parker when he decided to give up the mantle of being Spider-Man. I gave up being a geek since I wanted to be “cool.” Ohh, how miserable my life turned for the worst. I became an agent of being like everyone else. In terms of talking like the cool cats, dressing like a carbon copy of Harrison Ford, pretending that I am interested in trends, and reality dramas (Duck Dynasty at the time).

I could cover a laundry list of how I became a regular worldly citizen, but today ain’t the day for me to travel back into the past to dig up old fossils. As much as I love the original Jurassic Park novelization and film, I don’t consider bringing back what is already buried in the past. For now, the light of the geek is overpowering in my heart.

Back in 2015, when I went to the Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection F Hollywood Premiere.

It would be a crime to abandon the best part of our character. Geeks and nerds have creative spirits within them. They become artists, storytellers, musicians, game developers, food critics, content creators on various social media platforms, and heroes in their own lives. Being these two kinds of people is inspiring and liberating. You can love Star Wars, Marvel, DC Comics, Science, Dragon Ball Z, One Piece, Vaporwave, City Pop, Michael Jackon, or even Mariah Carey. A lot of people are essentially geeks since they have a passion for different mediums.

To everyone that is reading this piece, be the best kind of person in this life. Just seeing what has been happening in the world post-Covid is saddening. We shouldn’t divide ourselves since we’re all brothers, and sisters fighting an everyday fight through our own personal struggles. I get it is not as simple as loving and sharing compassion when needed. However, we must strive towards creating unity, peace, justice, truth, and hope. The visions we all have should make us become better people.
