Why Heroes Matter

Heroes inspire us to be kind and compassionate individuals. Throughout my life, I loved heroes more than villains. Villains represent the worst qualities of humanity, yet heroes represent how we should live our lives through selfless acts towards those we come across. Being a hero may not be the most favorable job but it keeps your conscience and values clean.

I don’t like how social media influences people to act in a specific way that doesn’t align with truth, honor, justice, a sense of responsibility, accountability, love, and respect. For example, there’s negative content on YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, etc, telling men how to be cold, liars, selfish, and players to women. It has become the norm that hooking up with multiple individuals is acceptable while boasting about having an abundance amount of sex with someone you clearly don’t love. It’s all a pleasure game with no real connection included.

Needless to say, It’s been clear to me for far too long that the world is crumbling day by day through bad deeds and a lack of values and moral sense. I know I can sound like an old fart who’s still young and less knowledgable but my heroes and parents taught me better than what these current societal views preach (particularly in the United States).

However, I learned through the stories of Superman as an example of why it’s crucial to be a symbol of hope and to try to represent something good when others turn away from truth, justice, and a better tomorrow. It has been the norm for far too long to not even help a homeless person but instead scoff at him for his current state. It has also been the norm to step on other people’s toes to get whatever selfish wants met.

I may be the biggest naive human being, but I believe there’s such a person who has righteous qualities from fictional stories or the Bible itself. Righteous qualities we can pick up on and apply to our lives to better this world and not continue to pollute the minds of this current generation. I’ve been thinking about the future of my niece and nephew and how they’ll navigate this world. The only way they will have a chance is if I continue to hold onto my morals and values and show them it’s possible to lead with kindness while portraying that as true strength.

I’ll say this, never become a doormat for others who take your kindness and integrity for granted. It’s never a sin to love others deeply and to be a good symbol of change. True strength comes through love, compassion, forgiveness, courage, honor, hope, faith, and determination of the human spirit. Lastly, be surrounded by good people with the traits I described above because it’ll rub on you. Thank you!
