A Who’s Fond Memory
Since we have about five more days until Christmas, I would like to talk about an amazing childhood film of mine, How the Grinch Stole Christmas (2000). Almost every Christmas season being a kid and now an adult, I often go back to watching this film for its comedic, terrifying, and wholesome story. You’re probably wondering why I used the word terrifying for this particular film, let me show you my point:

As you can see, Jim Carrey’s portrayal of The Grinch scared the living Whoville out of me whenever I saw him make that evil grin and how the DVD cover stares into your soul. I don’t know why this film has been one of my timeless favorites but Jim Carrey is too damn good with his acting chops and greenish charm as the flipping Grinch. I would even argue that this is one of Jim’s best acting performances in cinema. You can quote me on that one!
There’s a Mean and Good One Among Us
I feel like nowadays some people have grown into a grouchy old Grinch. There’s a lack of kindness towards our fellow brothers and sisters on this good Earth, greed and selfishness are becoming a norm rather than something that should be opposed, giving our unique gifts to others can be seen as a sign of weakness, and cynicism has become an accepted state of mind in this current generation.
Stories like The Grinch remind me why we should open our hearts to people. Yes, there are evil, mean, and dangerous people in this world, yet we sometimes fail to recognize good people who don’t get the love and recognition they deserve. They remain silent and alone in their quiet desperation which may lead them to becoming a Grinch.
How the Grinch Stole Christmas, taught me the importance of building trust and genuine connections with people. People who have been hurt by the past and those who love us for who we are and what we can aspire to become. For example, Cindy Lou Who helped our miserable friend get out of his cave of despair and give Christmas another chance. Well, the best literal sense is for him to give life another chance. She helped him to reclaim his dignity, sense of purpose, confidence, joy, humanity, and long-lost love.

To Be a Who Is To Be Merry
Be merry to those who go through difficult moments in life for they desire a listening ear, a warm hug, a gentle smile, a kind word, and an invitation for companionship and acceptance. To be a Who is to see others as worthy individuals who deserve love. Thank you.
