And That’s The Way The Cookie Crumbles!

Jim Carrey and Robin Williams were the two actors that have inspired my wacky personality throughout my childhood. Films like Hook, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, Bruce Almighty, The Mask, and Aladdin added layers to my personality based on their performances. If it weren’t for these two goofballs, I wouldn’t be a funny enough person. Just saying.

Jim Carrey.
Robin Williams.

Acting Experience

To start things off, I applied to The Juilliard School for acting back in 2014. I ended up getting rejected, however, I did attend Santa Monica College (SMC) the following year to pursue acting. As I entered into my first Acting 1 class at SMC, I’d sucked.

Mind you, I took acting courses back in junior and senior year of high school. Were my skills great then, not at all but I did enjoy learning the craft. The process of sucking and getting up on stage pushed me to developing self-confidence and vocal projection.

Senior year of high school in my drama class.

The further I failed the more I wanted to improve my weaknesses as an actor. Acting isn’t an easy field to get into. It takes a considerable amount of time and practice on learning various techniques, and developing your character into something believeable for your audience.

Back at Santa Monica College, I thought I would be ready to take the stage with my first acting performance assignment, however, the butterflies kicked in. So much for the short lived self-confidence from high school.

I obviously hadn’t prepared enough for the performance assignment when I blanked out in front of my partner. I began to stutter, shake a bit, and lose my focus. I knew at that very moment I’d failed.

From that experience I wanted to dropout of the class and do something easy. I am not sure what kept me to continue taking the class, but I would assume it was the talented individuals who inspired me to do so. Long story short, as I improved throughout the winter term I made small improvements in my performances.

For one, I had to acquire enough self-confidence to sharpen my acting chops. Secondly, I had to work with my classmates often in practicing our lines, stage blocking and gestures. Nonetheless, I successfully passed the course with a B but it could have been better.

What Am I Doing Now

Within the recent years I’ve been apart of some short student films, YouTube, and TikTok videos. I would argue I’ve gained a lot of confidence in myself thanks to getting back into the craft. FYI, I’ve been out of the acting game for several years until I got into my undergrad program for Communications (Production Track).

As of now, I may pursue an acting career back in California or elsewhere in the States since it’s a fun experience getting to act. It would be ideal to make millions of dollars but somehow it could happen one day.

For now I’ll focus on improving my commnuication skills, find acting classes, get some small roles, and find local plays to audition for. Nonetheless, I have Jim Carrey, Robin Williams, and my teachers to thank. They’ve inspired me in ways to keep my acting dreams alive.

Cheers!
